HAPPY NEW YEAR

Well thats another Year ending on a very very cold
theme. Farnborough just a few Movements today
the only Visiter being a D reg Air Ambulance.

Sunday 28 December 2008

Sunday Dec 28th 2008

Most of the Former XLA Aircraft have departed from Lasham leaving only 1 more to go
Farnborough. Not Really much happening these days thats been Worth reporting only EBJ Going Bust that used EGLF

My christmas like many i suspect was spent in Bed .
A very cold December Day but sunny at times. Much of UK Recovering from Flu like Myself and frankly its been the worst flu i have ever Had. We managed a sit down Roast family around the table we didnt manage that at Christmas . Spent the afternoon listening to Football on Radio and updating my Data Bases
.World situation taking a turn for the worse with the mid East on Fire again will they ever Stop that i very much doubt it.
Locally Woolworths remains open not much in there now and due to close January 5th. Another empty shop in an already bare town center . Adams Childrens shop also going to recievership closed mounths ago here in Farnborough but one shop remains in Aldershot.
The Airport second Day of operations saw just based movements today but a very heavy day on Saturday saw plenty of movements up to close at 2000 one new CL605 arrived from canada Enroute to the Azorres VP-CCH.

Friday 14 November 2008

Farnborough 12 November 2008

The Day Dawned dry and bright . All looked good For XH558 Departure
which went without a hitch at 1305 local time landing back at its
Bruntingthorpe Base some twenty minutes later with overflight of
LASHAM and RAF ODIHAM. Large crowds were all around the
perimeter with ITV Thames Valley cameras to record the event
Time will tell if this is the Last ever flight due to very poor money
donations to keep it airworthy

Tuesday 11 November 2008

Farnborough 11 November 2008

The Expected Departure of XH558 Drew large numbers of
people around the perimeter on a dry but Windy day.
Unfortunately electrical problem caused the flight to its
Bruntingthorpe base was cancelled. A new Transformer will
need to be fitted before another attempt is made on wedneday
the 12Th.

The Airship Hanger Framework on the former RAE Factory Site

This structure dates from the origins of the British Army Balloon School. It is a framework that formed part of a portable airship hangar which was recovered by Farnborough Air Sciences Trust (FAST). It has been restored and re-erected by Slough Estates as the centrepiece for a major refurbishment of the now disused RAE Factory site. The airship hangar will become a feature in the middle of the business park to commemorate the history of Farnborough Airfield.

Invite to a flyin at RAF Thorny Island

I Have been passed this request for Help and I am glad to be able To Assist . please Read and Respond if Interested . if you want more any info please email daryl@darylcornelius.com

Hello,
We are running a fly in (once in a life time fly in at Thorney Island on 30th & 31st August and have 10 passes for “Auction”. The event is a charity for Help for Heroes and that is why we are “”auctioning” the ten spaces.
We were told you had a list of local plane spotters and wanted to ask if you would share this information with them? We intend to put the auctions on EBay but want to tell the community they are there, can you help?

Attached is the information for the fly in…..it gives the background….
Daryl
Invitation to Fly into Thorney Island August 30th or 31st 2008
The Station Commander has asked me to invite a limited number pilots to land in and put this airfield in their log books it is an exclusive one time only event to raise funds for Help for Hero’s Charity. Thorney Island is a disused Airfield at on an active Army Camp, North East of the Isle of Wight and on the boarders of West Sussex & Hampshire. This is to be the only ever fly in to take place on Thorny Island since its closure, and will not be repeated.

Slots are on a first come first served basis please register at this web site and confirm your attendance by leaving your donations. Sorry to be financially brutal, but the purpose is to raise funds. A limited number of Aircraft Enthusiast will be invited on to the base by road over the two days to see and register the Aircraft if this is of interested please call 07834752083.

On your visit you will be greeted personally by The Station Commander who will be delighted to talk to you about a modern Army and its operation on an informal basis. There will be light refreshments. You will be given the opportunity to see Thorney Island first hand, a privilege normally not extended to the public…..although as you would expect there are restrictions on access as necessary.

Please do register to secure your place, and call to obtain instruction and radio frequencies and airfield information.

Registrations: at http://www.justgiving.com/fly-thoneyisland

Weather fall back dates : Sept 27th – 28th

Extract from Help for Hero’s web site.
What is H4H all about? It’s about the blokes, our men and women. It’s about Derri, a rugby player who has lost both his legs, it about Carl whose jaw is wired up so he has been drinking through a straw. It’s about Richard who was handed a mobile phone as he lay on the stretcher so he could say goodbye to his wife. It is about Ben, its about Steven and Andy and Mark, its about them all. They are just blokes but they are our blokes; they are our heroes. We want to help our heroes."

History
A victim of the boundary changes of the 1970s,Thorney Island was in Hampshire originally but on current maps is shown in West Sussex. Construction of the airfield at Thorney Island started in 1935.The project took rather longer than planned and the airfield did not open until 3/2/38 ,as part of 16 Group, Coastal Command. The station transferred briefly to no.17(Training) Group in March 38 before reverting to Coastal Command on 1/11 38 .On 15/7/47 the station passed to Fighter Command(No.11 Group),and in May 1950 to No.21 Group ,Flying Training Commanding January 62 control passed to No 38 Group ,Transport Command ,who remained in command until 31/10/75 .When Transport Command departed, the only remaining occupants were the SAR Squadron who eventually left in January 1976.On 31/3/76 the airfield was officially closed. Plans for use by the Navy, and later, as a general aviation field for Portsmouth both fell through. For a couple of years Britten-Norman rented hangar space to store Islanders, but there was no further use of the airfield. In August 1982 the Royal Artillery took over and they continue to use the base today.

A Hot Summers Day here very nice , not much
happening at FAB just about the Normal movements.
In the local papers call from Northcamp residents
to bring in the Air show traffic scheme as the traffic
flowed better than the normal Gridlock . Saying that
on Tuesday morning after the show my part of

Lessons to be learned there .
